The mother of a man who died in a boating incident in the Far North says her son was a "pretty popular, amazing guy" who was on the "trip of a lifetime".

Ten people were onboard the vessel Enchanter when it sunk off North Cape during a storm in the Far North on Sunday night.

Five people who were taken to safety have since been discharged from Kaitaia Hospital, including the boat's skipper, Lance Goodhew.

The bodies of four people have been recovered. Three people were found on Monday morning and a fourth person was located early on Monday afternoon.

A Tūrangi mum who lost sudden vision in her right eye delayed getting help because she didn't have a car, money for petrol or childcare support.

She, who cannot be named, waited all day until her partner had finished work and could look after the kids before she borrowed money and a friend drove her 40 minutes up the lake to Taupō.

"She was essentially going blind which was very distressing," said New Zealand Rural General Practice Network (NZRGPN) clinical director Dr Jeremy Webber, who saw her two weeks ago at Taupō Hospital's emergency department.

As there was no eye specialist at Taupō or any on-call in Rotorua, she had to be driven another two hours to Tauranga Hospital where she arrived at midnight.

Covid-19: Three new cases of Omicron in MIQ in New Zealand

New Zealand has three new cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 among its latest international arrivals.

The three cases arrived in Auckland from Dubai on December 11 and were transported to a Rotorua MIQ facility on a bus chartered for international arrivals.

One of the cases travelled to Dubai from London, another one from Spain and a third one from Nigeria. They all boarded the same flight in Dubai to Auckland.

None of these three cases are linked to the first Omicron case reported yesterday, in a Christchurch MIQ facility.

"We've had 100-200 people a day last week, so it's been pretty crazy and them we've also been vaccinating on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Saturdays."

She said the demand for services had been exacerbated by having fewer staff. Five of the team of 50 had left due to the vaccine mandates.
