"That's obviously going to be a priority after the high tide, which is coming in the next couple of hours, to get in there, clear out the debris and make the road safe," Foster said.

He said the storm proved less severe than expected and while the council took the precaution of evacuating people and declaring a local state of emergency a westerly shift meant the waves weren't as high as initially forecast.
