Police have started an investigation after a shooting in Papatoetoe this evening, leaving one person in critical condition.

Police were called about 9 pm after reports a person had been injured at an Elizabeth Avenue property, they confirmed in a statement.

The person has been transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Cordons and a scene guard will remain in place overnight, police said.
