Six people have been killed in a crashes overnight - three in a campervan in Canterbury, two in the Waikato and one in Northland.

Police first confirmed a triple fatality in Geraldine, in the Canterbury region, in the early hours of this morning.

Police said they were called to the scene of the crash around 1am Monday morning, stating a campervan had crashed into the barrier on Te Moana Rd, before catching fire.

All three of the campervan’s occupants were killed.
