King Charles’ coronation: London comes alive with royal fever, thousands of people hit the streets
Celebrities have flocked to Westminster Abbey for the coronation of King Charles who will tonight be crowned as the new royal head of state.
British actresses Dame Judi Dench and Emma Thompson were spotted walking into the Abbey, as have musicians Lionel Richie and Nick Cave. Author and broadcaster Stephen Fry was apparently among the first to arrive. Other British celebrities spotted inside the Abbey include actress Joanna Lumley and TV hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla have arrived by car at Buckingham Palace in London ahead of the coronation ceremony as royal fever grips the streets of London with thousands of people heading out early to catch a glimpse of the pair. Crowds near the start of the coronation procession between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey have been told there may be delays as protestors against the monarchy swarm the area.
The ceremony is attracting heads of state from around the globe, including New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins who said it was going to be a “very special day” as he left for Westminster.
